On January 23rd, we held a stake Relief Society Humanitarian event. The participants tied 25 full-size quilts, that were special "kits" created at the LDS Humanitarian Center in Mesa. The Center then binds the returned quilts and eventually ships them to Salt Lake City for distribution throughout the world. We all felt that these quilts would end up in Haiti. Nine other quilts were donated by sisters who brought them already "done" or prepared to tie. Because of a snowstorm,the Heber wards and Young Branch sisters postponed their activity in their buildings to a later date. They have since finished off twenty more quilts, which put our total at 54!
We invited all the sisters in the Region to join with us in their respective buildings. Jumping on board, the Relief Societies in St. Johns and Snowflake also participated in January. St. Johns completed 24 quilt kits, Snowflake completed 69 quilts! Also because of the storm, ShowLow postponed their activity to Feb. 20th, so we'll have to wait for their report.
It was a wonderful event and the joy and good feelings in the Cultural Hall was so exciting. We fit 16 quilting frames in there. Several ladies walked around taking pictures. We also had other projects going at the same time. We collected white shirts to donate to priesthood members in a third world country, socks for the homeless and plastic shopping bags for African women to crochet into handbags.
This last photo shows the finished quilts stored in my living room. They were eventually transported down to Mesa. Many sisters said they would love to participate in an event like this again.
Spring has sprung and with it, beautiful fruit tree blossoms and baseball games. Calla is playing on a "Majors" team, the Taylor Storms. She plays right field and the coach is working the team hard, usually has 2 hour practices or longer. Calla is in heaven! We had "Opening Day" for Taylor Little League and it was the prettiest day ever. About 74 degrees and no wind! Woohoo!

Jenny is the "keeper of the woodpile." She loves to stack the wood when it is dumped in our yard and does a superb job. Then she and Calla stack it by our basement window for Daddy to pull into the house. 
We took Jenny and Calla and two of her friends, Kristin and Mikayla,tubing near Sunrise. Kristin had NEVER been tubing before, so it was fun to watch her smile. The girls went up and down the hills for about 2 hours, and then they were ready for a warm truck. It was the perfect day for an outing. Thanks for the suggestion, Calla!
