Happy Halloween!

We drove down to Mesa on Saturday morning and got to be with the grandkids on Halloween night. So fun to see their costumes in person! Saylor was a beautiful princess, Stryder was a brave knight in shining armor, Brolin was a ferocious dragon, and Connor was a swashbuckling pirate. We saw some darling great-grandkids come to see Grandma Reed, then drove to Jay's house to find Grumps (Grandpa Klepinger) there, and then out to Paul and Trudy's so Leah and Calla could trick-or-treat together in her neighborhood. Jenny stayed home with Grandma Reed to pass out candy to anyone who rang the doorbell, although the evening was disappointingly quiet for her. Mark got the most laughs with his "Personal Trainer" get-up. It was a memorable night!

Taylor/Shumway Heritage Dinner

Okay, how did I get myself into this? I guess I said, "yes." Arlene Lee wrote a script regarding the "good ol' days" and Brad Click and I played Charley and Julia Shumway. We introduced the various acts during the show and tried to be funny. Got some laughs and were both very glad when it was over. The dinner is the big fund-raiser of the year for the Heritage Foundation. Our stake center cultural hall was full of people from Snowflake and Taylor, who made donations to support the local restoration and museum projects. A worthwhile cause. After the dinner Mark and I were invited to a Halloween party at Stan and Brandy Shumway's. Mark won the "grand prize" for best costume. We borrowed the blow-up outfit from Jake Tenney. Pretty funny! We laughed at him all night, especially as he maneuvered to play some charade type games. Hysterical! Had a little fan inside to keep it inflated.

Calla's Concert

The Snowflake Jr. High had a music concert at the high school auditorium in October. Calla sings in the Women's Choir and they had an absolutely wonderful performance. Lots of talented singers. They were well-rehearsed and nailed their songs. The choir director saved them for last, because she knew they were going to be the "best." Calla is a second soprano and is learning to harmonize. Happy Birthday!

We were in the valley to celebrate Mark's birthday with the kids. Tim suggested (and treated us)to eat lunch at "Native New Yorker." It was so delicious! Then we all gathered at Grandma Reed's and had some pumpkin pie together. The little ones played with the toys in Grandma's hall closet. Mark received lots of books...it will keep him busy reading till Christmas. The pictures capture the day better than any words can. It was just a nice, quiet birthday...the kind Mark likes best.

Spinning Top

A quiet evening at Grandpa Klepinger's. He brings out a spinning top that lights up and we were all thoroughly entertained (mesmerized and hypnotized)for twenty minutes on the kitchen floor. Connor was especially curious!

Miss you, Mom

It's been two years today, since she left this "frail existence" and left her loved ones behind. We still feel a huge void, especially when we walk in the doors of 936 E. 8th Place. Wish I could give you a big long hug, or maybe let you give me one. I love and miss you very much.

Oh, you boys!

(You gotta click on this picture and enlarge it) A classic shot from our Reed family history, taken in the fall of 1986. I walked out the door and got quite a shock. I probably told them to stand right there and not move (so I could run and grab the 35mm camera), and they were a little nervous waiting...It looks like Tim took one of my measuring cups (orange was an "in" color when I got married). It doesn't look muddy, so maybe I caught him before he started digging with it. The picture doesn't surprise me, Tim attracted dirt, and Chris was always the cleaner of the two. Oh, how I wish I could walk out the door one more time and catch them at that precious age. I would kiss them, mud and all. So dang cute!I love my boys!

Relief Society Broadcast dinner

Some images of the way we decorated for that evening with an "Asian" theme...I used a lot of things from my mom and dad's home, which made it kinda fun. Dad had sent the big elephants (on the stage) to our home when he was in VietNam. The tall Japanese doll was a gift to me from Uncle Bill and Aunt Else who were stationed in Japan for a couple years. My counselor, Cherisse, had done a Chinese reception for her son recently, so she had centerpiece items, table toppers, and the big wall hangings. Came together so nicely! We served Chinese sundaes (otherwise known as Hawaiian haystacks) and gave them fortune cookies with scriptures inside. It was kind of fun that Sis. Thompson mentioned a fortune cookie in her talk! We had a sister in our stake give the blessing on the food in Korean. Nice touch.

County Fair 9/16/09

We took the girls and two of Calla's friends to the Navajo county fair. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect and the crowd was small. The rides were expensive so we had to pick and choose, but the girls had a blast. Jenny didn't want to ride anything she perceived as "scarey" so the only thing we could get her on was a miniature dragon roller coaster and a "mock" roller coaster ride. Calla was awesome on the climbing rock and was up and down it in about 2 minutes. By the time we drove back home she was feeling sick, and ended up with a 103 temperature that night.

New presidency

I am now the only "original" member of the Taylor Stake R.S. presidency that was called in December of 2006. I'm learning to adapt to change and it's been a great lesson to me how the Lord is mindful and helps me to know, out of all the sister's in the stake, who can slip in and fill a position. Cherisse (left) is the new 1st Counselor and is our "energizer bunny." She has an easy, infectious laugh, a great sense of humor and great ideas swimming around in her head. She is going to continue as the stake Family History specialist. Her husband is the Taylor Fire Chief and she has several married children and a few more still at home. Luann (second from left) was called to be our new secretary a few months ago and is a school librarian in Taylor. She enjoys creating beautiful monthly newsletters and is so comfortable emailing information out to the wards. She is humble, kind and very intelligent, quietly making suggestions that are needed. She is a return missionary and had taught Gospel Doctrine for years in her ward. LaRee (right) is the 2nd Counselor,beautiful inside and out, always there with positive comments,her strong testimony guides her in everything she does. She is a wonderful homemaker and has a large extended family that adore her.

Labor Day Swim

No,Tim, I'm not going to jump in the pool with my camera! We had a BBQ at the Woolf's and enjoyed good food and the BYU-Oklahoma game.

Okay, so then we come out of the house to go home and notice that when Grandpa Klepinger parked his car next to our truck, he got as close as you can come without actually having a collision! Jeepers! Funny Grumps...it wasn't like there was no room in the cul-de-sac to park!
